In this Newhouse class, I was introduced to the history and foundational concepts of Public Relations. We examined different industries and skills required of PR practitioners. We also looked at the role of PR through its ethics and social responsibility as well as management function in communication. I chose the political PR industry to focus on the responsibilities and future growth. For this industry, I researched the careers and conducted an interview with a current industry professional.
This paper is an in-depth look into the nonprofit environmental advocacy organization Clean Water Action and their communications strategies through both research and an interview with the national Director of Communications, Michael Kelly.
